The Ali Pasha Bridge, also called Dunavat Bridge, is one of the few remaining parts of a large aqueduct system built by Ali Pasha of Tepelena in the beginning of the 19th century. Gjirokastra Castle didn't have any water supply so the network of aqueducts was built to fill the castle's cisterns with water from Mount Sopot, about 10 kilometers away.
